The Girls Do Science event brought together more than 100 pupils from the Highlands for an inspiring two-day experience designed to build confidence, connections, and awareness of STEM careers. The programme combined a networking session with local STEM professionals - including colleagues from our Freedom team - with a full day of hands-on, career-focused workshops.

Day one opened with an evening networking session aimed at helping students develop confidence and communication skills. Through a series of icebreakers, participants connected with peers from other schools, current apprentices, and employers, gaining valuable first-hand insight into STEM pathways and future opportunities.

On day two, students took part in interactive workshops centred on real-world careers. Colleagues from our Freedom team led a Wind Turbine to Electric Car Build session, where students explored the variety of roles involved in project management while discovering career paths they may not have previously considered.

Throughout the event, the students demonstrated strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills - highlighting the qualities that make them excellent future candidates for roles in the STEM sector.
