International Women In Engineering Day 2025
International Women in Engineering Day celebrates and promotes the amazing work that women in engineering do across the world.
As a business, we’re committed to building a fair and respectful culture where everyone is recognised for the value they bring.
We've asked some of the brilliant women in our business to tell us about their journey into the sector, who inspires them and why this career path is for everyone.
“I began my journey in engineering through an electrical engineering apprenticeship, which gave me the hands-on experience and confidence to build a meaningful career in the built environment. Now, as a quality assurance engineer, I’m proud to be part of a team that values quality, continuous improvement, and inclusion. To any woman considering engineering - believe in your potential and know there’s a rewarding place for you in this industry.”

“My interest in engineering was inspired my father, a fitter, who fuelled my passion for understanding how things work and solving problems. My journey has been shared by resilience and a commitment to innovation, and I remain dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where more women can thrive in our industry. Over 19 years at NG Bailey, I have progressed through roles form technical support Engineer to my current role. I’m grateful for the development opportunities I’ve been given and having the support from Kelly Tedesco, Managing Director, IT Services and has been instrumental in my growth. I love working for NG Bailey and the business still fills me with the passion to always look for ways to do things better!”

“I chose engineering because it’s where creativity meets problem-solving; a space where I can apply both analytical and creative skills to tackle complex challenges. I’ve always been passionate about using maths and science to solve real-world problems and improve the way we live. Engineering offers an incredible opportunity to make a positive impact, and I’m proud to be part of a field that’s driving sustainable and efficient solutions for the future. At NG Bailey, I’ve found a supportive environment that values innovation and continuous learning. To any women considering a career in the built environment and engineering: your unique perspective is not just welcome - it’s essential.”

“After finishing my A-Levels, I joined NG Bailey as a quantity surveying apprentice – a role I hadn’t heard of before, but one that quickly sparked my interest. The chance to learn something completely new and step into the engineering industry was exciting and has proved both challenging and rewarding. I’ve got a brilliant learning environment, with great opportunities – including the chance to study for my degree part-time. The support from my line manager, colleagues, and senior leaders has been key to my development, and the company’s strong focus on training really aligns with my goals. As a volunteer, I visit schools and colleges to help inspire young women to consider careers in engineering. Sharing my journey and seeing their curiosity grow is incredibly rewarding. I’m passionate about championing the message that women have a place in engineering!”
