Freedom’s POC-MAST™ connects with market as demand soars
Freedom, an NG Bailey Group company and a leader in high-voltage electrical infrastructure, has seen growing demand for its pioneering POC-MAST™ innovation after widespread approval for use on their networks by the majority of the UK Distribution Network Operators (DNOs).
The Point of Connection Mast - POC-MAST™ - offers a safer, faster and more affordable means of connecting to the local power distribution network for many applications, including data centres, battery storage, wind and solar farms.
A market-leading innovation by NG Bailey’s Freedom business, the POC-MAST™ is transforming the way new connections to the high voltage electricity distribution network are delivered and is a forward-thinking solution for enhanced grid efficiency and resilience.
Originally launched to address the growing demand for sustainable, cost-efficient and future-ready high-voltage solutions, the POC-MAST™ has undergone extensive testing and proven successful in long-term deployment at 132kV across multiple network zones.
Fully in service across three of the UK’s DNOs - the companies that own and maintain the local electricity network of power lines and cables and are responsible for connecting homes and businesses to the grid - Freedom has installed a network of POC-MASTs™ with a healthy pipeline of future orders and enquiries. POC-MAST™ is successfully operating on DNOs including UK Power Networks, Northern Powergrid and SSEN.
Freedom is also in discussions with the outstanding two DNOs about POC-MAST’s™ approval on its network.
Key features and benefits of POC-MAST™ include:
Value engineering: Significant reduction in connection costs against traditional tower connections
Environmental sustainability: Lower Carbon Footprint than traditional tower connection methods
Installation efficiency: Reduced on-site assembly time improves project delivery speed and workforce safety
Improved network reliability and resilience: POC-MAST™ requires significantly less time to connect.
Building on this success, Freedom is now working closely with industry peers to share best practice and unlock further opportunities for innovation at higher voltage levels.
“This is a landmark moment not only for Freedom, but for the wider energy industry. The adoption of the POC-MAST™ into business-as-usual practice proves that large-scale transformation in the high-voltage sector is both achievable and sustainable, setting a clear path for the future of resilient grid infrastructure. POC-MAST™ enables any developer that requires a connection into the electricity distribution network - for generation or load - to achieve an affordable and timely point of connection for their scheme. The adoption of this innovation as standard practice is already delivering tangible benefits across capital delivery projects, while directly supporting industry-wide goals to decarbonise infrastructure, strengthen resilience, and accelerate the energy transition. Its rollout has also established a new benchmark for collaboration between engineering teams, regulators, and supply chain partners and we are delighted with the demand for POC-MAST™ in the market and its success to date.”
