As a Key Delivery Partner (KDP) on the Sellafield long-term Programme and Project Partners (PPP) framework, alongside partnering KDP’s Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick, EJ Parker and Altrad Babcock, we are delighted to welcome four long-term small to medium enterprises (SME’s) and Local Partners on board.

Shepley Engineers, PPS Electrical, Process Pipework Services (PPS) Ulverston and Alpha Engineering will join the PPP enterprise, after having partnered with NG Bailey and the other KDP’s through the tender process, which was supported by the SME Matchmaker Service.

Additional suppliers will be brought on board via KDP long-term frameworks by December 2023, with a total of 20 expected to be signed up by March 2024.

The benefits of these long-term frameworks and collaboration with the KDP’s will create local job opportunities, bringing opportunities for new investment and creating employment opportunities for apprentices/trainees, returners to the workforce and the long-term unemployed in line with the PPP ‘Critical Success Factors’. The £7bn framework will deliver 22 new build projects on the Sellafield site in Cumbria.

Led by our Engineering Strategic Projects team, we will deliver the HVAC, Mechanical & Pipework, and Electrical & Instrumentation Frameworks on the PPP framework, alongside partnering KDP’s.

We have worked in the nuclear sector since the 1950s and  continue to deliver precision engineering to this day.  We were selected following our demonstration of our collaborative behaviours, innovative techniques, experience in the nuclear sector, and capacity to deliver large, complex projects.

The projects will feature a mixture of modern methods of construction and we will utilise our Offsite Manufacture capabilities to influence designs for modular construction.  An example of this is the Replacement Analytic Project, where we will manufacture and deliver offsite modules for the project, reducing both programme time and cost.

As part of the framework and our responsibility as a ‘Net Positive’ business, we aim to ensure we put more into society, the environment, and the global economy than we take out and we will deliver this through the social value aspect of the project. 

This appointment builds on our extensive experience working in the nuclear sector, where we contributed to the creation of Calder Hall, the world’s first full-scale nuclear power station, and our teams continue to provide a wide range of engineering services for projects today, including Hinkley Point C.
