Explore our industry and the careers within it
Our work experience opportunities are designed to give individuals an insight into the engineering and infrastructure services industry, helping inform future study and career decisions.
Where we have capacity, we’re keen to open our doors, share our knowledge and help more people understand the range of trades, skills and pathways that keep our industry running.

What work experience means with us
Work experience with us is first and foremost about learning, not working.
Opportunities are offered for an agreed period, with the aim of:
· Introducing you to our industry and business
· Helping you understand different roles, trades and career routes
· Supporting informed decisions about future education or employment
Due to the nature of our work, placements are focused on exposure, observation and guided learning, rather than undertaking productive work. This ensures a safe, fair and valuable experience for everyone involved.
What you could experience
Your exact experience will vary depending on business capacity and the type of opportunity available. Depending on availability and location, work experience may include:
Learning about the different careers across engineering, infrastructure and support services
Insight into how projects are delivered safely and responsibly
Opportunities to meet colleagues and hear about their career journeys
Group sessions or structured activities designed to build understanding of the industry

Availability and capacity
Work experience opportunities are offered when we have the capacity to support individuals or groups to work safely and effectively alongside our core business and operational commitments.
As a result, we are not always able to accommodate all requests, even though we would like to. While work experience cannot be guaranteed, where opportunities are available, we aim to provide a meaningful and positive experience. Where we are able to offer work experience:
Some opportunities may be arranged locally
Sessions may be developed with schools or education providers
Opportunities may be advertised on this page when available.

Expressing your interest
If you’re interested in work experience with us, you can:
· Email our Early Careers team to express your interest, including your location, education provider and preferred timing
· Keep an eye on this page for any advertised opportunities or local initiatives.
When working directly with schools, colleges or universities, opportunities will usually be communicated through those channels.
You must be aged 14 or above to complete work experience at NG Bailey.

Our commitment
We believe in playing an active role in supporting future talent and attracting more people into our industry.
While work experience does not deliver any direct return to the business, it reflects our commitment to:
· Education and skills development
· Social responsibility
· Generating awareness of engineering and infrastructure careers.
When we can accommodate work experience, we do so because we believe we can provide an insight into our business and job roles.
