A step forward in our green journey

Operating responsibly has always been a priority for us, whether it is investing in our people, training apprentices or minimising our impact on the environment.

Back in 2009 we took an important step on our sustainability journey when a biomass boiler was installed to provide and heat water at our Denton Hall office. The boiler is still in use today and since then we have also installed photovoltaic solar power panels at Denton Hall, our offices in Leeds and Birmingham and our Offsite Manufacture facility in Bradford. As well as generating our own energy, we now purchase 75% of the energy we use from low carbon sources.

As we continue our journey to becoming a sustainable business, reducing our impact on the environment remains a key focus. During 2019/20 we achieved an absolute reduction of 6% in total emissions across our Group activities – a saving of more than 500 tonnes of carbon.

Travel is also a key focus for us, as well as using technology to help reduce our business miles, we have also invested in cleaner, more efficient vehicles including hybrid and electric vehicles.

We are also a champion of offsite manufacturing which delivers significant environmental benefits through reducing waste, reducing vehicle movements to construction projects and supports the creation of more energy efficient buildings.

In 2018, we adopted the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of our One Approach to Business. Since then we have been awarded a five star rating for our support which has included reducing our own carbon footprint and working with customers to help them improve theirs. We are looking forward to making further progress on these goals during our centenary year.
