BBBJV Sponsors Pride of Bristol Boat Trip for Chernobyl Children's Lifeline

​​​​The Balfour Beatty Bailey JV team recently raised funds to sponsor a boat trip with the Pride of Bristol Trust. An amazing £350 was raised by the BBBJV team, which enabled a group of children with the Chernobyl Children's Lifeline charity to take to the water on the Pride of Bristol, a former military vessel known as HMS Messina.

On the morning of Saturday 4th August, Leanne Moss, Project Administrator from the BBBJV team, was invited to join skipper Bob Baker and his crew to set sail and see the sights of Bristol and beyond with the children.

The boat sailed down the River Avon, underneath the Clifton Suspension Bridge and then on to Avonmouth and Portishead Marina. During the trip the children had fun steering the boat and playing games in the wardroom.

The Chernobyl Children's lifeline charity supports children affected by the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Their fundraising activities raise money for a number of children and one of their main aims each year is to bring victims of the Chernobyl disaster to the UK for a recuperative break of four weeks. For many years, the city of Bristol has hosted their annual visit and the Pride of Bristol Trust works together with other local supporting charities to help them enjoy their time here.

All money donated to the Pride of Bristol Trust goes towards maintaining the ship and funding trips for charities and youth and community groups, as well as training and sea voyaging for young adults and sea cadets from Bristol and the South West. The crew, who consists of local volunteers, also raises funds through a number of water-based activities including diving, fishing and bird watching.

Everyone on the boat had a fun filled morning and the crew were thankful to the BBBJV team for raising the funds and sponsoring the trip.
