Student engagement success with our Inspire programme

At NG Bailey we are passionate about providing educational and development opportunities for young people and we aim to encourage and motivate the next generation through our active school engagement programme, Inspire.

Inspire aims to change young people’s perceptions of science and engineering related careers and since December, we have engaged with over 400 students and contributed over 100 hours of employee time to educational and development events for young people.

Some of our Inspire activities undertaken in this period included:

Batley Girls School STEM engagement day
We engaged with over 100 year 7 students and examined the skills required to become an engineer, as well as testing their design and engineering flair with practical activities.

We also received excellent feedback from the school: “Every student who attended the NG Bailey session really enjoyed it… they found it very engaging and particularly liked how interactive the session was."

Kingsway School year 9 STEM engagement days

This two-day event highlighted a wealth of engineering potential from over 300 students. NG Bailey representatives supported a wide range of activities that challenged the students to demonstrate their skills in design, teamwork and engineering.

Over two thirds of students said they were maybe or definitely interested in a STEM-related career after these sessions, with the school reporting: “We are very proud to have you as an industrial working partner."

NG Bailey work experience week – Birmingham office
Following a competitive application process, four students from local schools were challenged to become NG Bailey engineers for a week at our Birmingham office. The students were asked to engage with our employees at workshops for estimating, sustainability, project management, commercial and presentation skills design and also undertook a site visit.

“We were very impressed by the calibre of the attendees and their work ethic through the week, having given up their holiday to attend. From their presentation and feedback it was evident that they have a good understanding of what we do and they will hopefully be inspired to pursue a career in engineering and contracting."
