NG Bailey employees ‘Go Orange’ for Alzheimer's Research UK

30th June 2017

Orange was the theme for the day across NG Bailey’s offices, as fundraising got well and truly underway for the company’s charity partner, Alzheimer's Research UK – with efforts helping to raise nearly £5,000.

Employees were asked to ‘Go Orange’ for the official launch of the partnership on Thursday 15 June and make a donation to the UK’s leading dementia research charity. Offices also held an orange-only bake sale and they had the chance to play orange-inspired games throughout the day.

The theme was inspired by Alzheimer's Research UK’s #sharetheorange campaign. The charity created a thought-provoking video to demonstrate that dementia is not a natural part of ageing. The animation brings home the message that dementia is caused by diseases that physically attack the brain, with a brain affected by Alzheimer’s weighing around 140g less than a healthy brain – about the weight of an orange.

This was the official launch of the partnership between NG Bailey and Alzheimer's Research UK, which will run for a year with the aim of raising £75,000. A team from the charity also visited NG Bailey offices to speak to employees about why the cause is so crucial, as part of a drive to raise awareness through the partnership.

There are currently 850,000 people in the UK living with dementia. Currently, there is no effective treatment to slow down or stop the condition. The money raised over the year will help fund pioneering research into dementia and the diseases that cause it.

Cal Bailey, NG Bailey’s Group Sustainability Director, said:
“Our ‘Go Orange’ day across NG Bailey was a great success and we are delighted that so many people got involved. When we asked our employees who they wanted to be our next charity partner, they voted overwhelming in favour of Alzheimer's Research UK. It’s a cause close to many people’s hearts and the enthusiasm from the launch shows how committed they are to defeating dementia. We look forward to the rest of the partnership.”

Felicity James, Corporate Partnerships Officer at Alzheimer's Research UK, said:
“What a great way to launch our partnership with NG Bailey! We were delighted to see so many people in orange and it was great to have the opportunity to speak to employees about our challenge ahead. Without the support of partners like NG Bailey, we would not be able to fund the research which will lead us to a life-changing treatment for people with dementia. We want to say a big thank you for all those who got involved on the day and we are excited for the year ahead!”
