Project spotlight - Euston Traction Substation (TSS)

NG Bailey is currently on site delivering the £5.5m mechanical, electrical, public health, fire, and security systems within the new building and tunnel on the Euston Traction Substation project.

To create space for the new HS2 Euston Station, a newly excavated 20-metre-deep ‘box’ will be home to a new traction substation. The existing substation provides critical power and cooling for London Underground systems at Euston station.

Works in the new building have been progressing well, and the team is currently planning for the arrival of several combined service risers that have been designed by the project team and NG Bailey Offsite Manufacture. Integrated testing and commissioning are planned for 2024 and, when complete, will allow the decommissioning and demolition of the existing substation to begin.

The works at Euston station have been secured through early involvement, where our technical and engineering teams worked alongside the client to develop strategies and solutions for the main works.

Important to the client and aligned with our own core values is the social value aspect of the project, where the site team has already visited several local schools, giving students an insight into working in the construction industry.
